It’s where I’m from and I’ve built a brand and a business there that I’m so proud of, but I also want to look at other opportunities abroad,” says Niman. Having that mentality to see the overall vision and letting them share a piece of the pie and giving profit-share and partnership, that’s really the only way you don’t burn out.”įor the foreseeable future, Niman plans to split his time between Miami and Toronto, perhaps beyond, depending on how quickly the company’s expansion takes place. “At this point, for me to keep going and to keep doing this all … I have to keep investing in it being less about me and more about them. There’s so many people who have devoted the last decade to working for my company and help me build and grow,” says Niman. “It’s not just me, it’s not food dude, its Food Dudes, I always say that. Yet, he also credits a strong team for helping him achieve his dreams. If Niman’s energy and ambition seem superhuman, they just may be. I think I want to just keep going and see how far we can take this thing.” At this point, I don’t think I want to settle down or anything. “Now we’re starting to work on hotels and other stuff so it’s been really exciting. Beyond that? “The plan eventually is to spread Food Dudes across Canada and the U.S.” There’s also, Niman hints, a vision of branching out with entirely new concepts. After Blondies, we’ll look to bring in other brands like Rasa, Sara, MIMI, some of our other concepts,” says Niman. “The plan first will be to bring Blondies Pizza down here. A location that offers everything from menu inspiration to an escape from Toronto's brutal winters, Miami always struck Niman as the perfect place to expand the Food Dudes brand. Being right on the gulf, right on the coast, is another thing. Beyond being a second home to a large number of snowbirds who are familiar with the Food Dudes brand, Niman adds that "it's nice that the same time zone and it's only a three-hour flight. Having grown up visiting Florida, Niman says that he's always dreamt of expanding to Miami. Instead of taking some time to bask in his success, he's as determined as ever to share his culinary vision with as many people as possible. More recently, he took on the role of executive chef for a brand of artisanal edibles named Olli, while also overseeing the food and beverage program at Hotel X. Niman also opened restaurants Rasa, Pantry and Clay. Blondies Pizza - a mini-empire in itself with seven locations, and counting - is a collaboration between Niman and chef Matt Blondin. Heard of MIMI Chinese? The city's buzziest new spot also counts Niman as a partner. Casual and young, yet always able to meet the standard of perfection that hosts demand, the company quickly gained a faithful following. From the name to the uniforms, Food Dudes was cool. A focus on bright, bold flavours and vibrant, modern presentations caught on with a public craving excitement from catered affairs. "It had always been a dream of mine to open a restaurant but, obviously, I saw a greater opportunity from a business standpoint to start a catering business." Originally working out of his parent's condo, Niman attracted attention with food that was fun and fresh.
